Why We Need Your Help
There are over 6,000 low-income homeowners in our county who are in desperate need of home repairs to maintain the safety of their home. Their lives, their families are in jeopardy. Leaking roofs, broken furnaces, malfunctioning appliances, unsafe walkways, and excessive debris in the home and yard all cause health hazards. Furthermore, a small problem, such a leaking pipe, can quickly escalate into a large problem, such as water damage and/or rottening floors. Left untreated, these hazards make it unsafe for the family to remain at home. Rebuilding Together is often their only option, and the only thing standing in between them staying in safety and losing their home.
Rebuilding Together Montgomery County relies on the support of companies, foundations, civic groups, faith-based organizations, and individuals like you to make our work happen.
One longtime partner for Rebuilding Together is Choice Hotels International. Headquartered in Rockville, Choice Hotels is a national partner to the Rebuilding Together network, but is proud to call Montgomery County home, and we are proud to have them. Careful to give back to the community that supports them, Choice Hotels has partnered with Rebuilding Together Montgomery County for the last five years on large-scale volunteer give-back days that engage their employees to make a tangible, lasting impact in our community.
In partnership, Choice Hotels and Rebuilding Together Montgomery County have:
- Removed yard debris, built a picnic area, installed industrial washer/dryer units, repaired a back porch and steps, replaced torn carpeting, poured a dumpster landing pad, and painted for a homeless shelter in Rockville;
- Reconstructed support beams, replaced a furnace leaking carbon monoxide, removed yard debris, painted, installed appliances, replaced drafty windows and doors, and painted for a young family with two small children in Rockville;
- Demolished a rotten shed, removed debris, poured a driveway, built flowerboxes and planted flowers, replaced appliances, and painted the interior and exterior of the home for a senior mother and her adult son with disabilities in Rockville;
- Built shelving units, replaced a drainage pipe, removed overgrowth, replaced a security system, made significant landscaping improvements, planted trees and painted the interior and exterior of a food pantry in Silver Spring
- Installed dozens of wall-mounted clothing racks, built freestanding and mobile shelving units, and moved and sorted school supplies and clothing for a clothing center in Rockville;
Groups like Choice Hotels International are essential to making our mission come to life, but they cannot do it alone. Join them, and hundreds of others who care deeply about protecting our vulnerable families, and participate in Do More 24 today with a gift to help a neighbor in need.

The RT Honors Reception is an biennal event that affords Rebuilding Together Montgomery County the opportunity to say “thank you” to a champion who has separated him/herself from the pack through their leadership, dedication, and passion for Rebuilding Together. The event also offers an opportunity to network with old friends and meet new partners who care about the Montgomery County community, our neighborhoods, and our families in need.
This event would not be possible without the generous support of our sponsors, and we encourage you to click on their logos, visit their websites, and learn more about their role in our community. We are all, each in our own way, working to make this county, and the greater DC metropolitan area, a wonderful place to call home.

Happy Birthday, Karen!
Karen Smith, a longtime volunteer for Rebuilding Together, both at the national level and with both Rebuilding Together DC and Rebuilding Together Montgomery County, is turning 60 on February 9th, and wants to share her birthday celebrations with us!
Karen is currently the Vice President of the Board of Directors for Rebuilding Together Montgomery County, an occupational therapist, and champion for both Rebuilding Together and safe and accessible housing. She’s been such an advocate for us, and now she’s once again turning her talents to fundraising!
To celebrate her birthday, Karen has set a goal to raise $1000 in support of home modifications – things designed to prevent falls, increase accessibility, and make activities of daily living easier for those who are struggling. What a wonderful legacy for Karen to leave for so many vulnerable families in need!
Won’t you help us celebrate with Karen by making a gift in her honor today?
In October 2012, Kathy celebrated her 60th birthday, and we are so proud to get to share that milestone with her. In January 2013, she will also celebrate her 10th anniversary working here at Rebuilding Together Montgomery County! We are so lucky to have her working alongside us every day to help our families in need!
In honor of those she serves every day, we invite you to recognize Kathy’s work through a personal gift today.
One area of particular concern for Kathy is the number of requests Rebuilding Together receives for roof repairs and replacements – both of which are incredibly expensive and can be outside the budget for Rebuilding Together Montgomery County.
So with that in mind, and help from you, we are going to all pitch in, celebrate Kathy, and hopefully Raise the Roof for a family in need. Our goal is one new roof – but there’s no reason to stop there, so get involved!! It will be a wonderful birthday present for Kathy, a fitting celebration of her 10 years at RTMC, and a significant help to someone struggling in our community.
Make a Gift Today in Honor of Kathy!

RTMC partnered with Lowe’s of Gaithersburg on October 11, 2012 to make significant repairs for a multi-generational family in Gaithersburg. With both financial support and donated material, as well as a dozen employees on-hand working to get the job done, Lowe’s and RTMC replace rotten siding along one side of the house, installed insulation, replaced an unsafe step, provided landscaping work and interior painting, and with the help of the Maryland Energy Administration, also installed a new furnace for a family with several young children. In partnership, our work will allow them a safe and comfortable place to grow up!
The 2012 RTMC Golf Classic a great success: over $60,000 raised to support families in need
RTMC would like to thank all the sponsors, golfers, in-kind donors, and volunteers who made the 2012 RTMC Golf Classic such a success. Held on October 1, 2012 at Whiskey Creek Golf Club, the event brought 118 golfers together for a beautiful day of golfing, networking, and philanthropy! A special thanks goes to our Presenting Sponsors, Monument Bank and Bart & Associates for making this day possible.
