Position Summary:      

RTMC’s Development and Communications Manager will be responsible for helping execute RTMC’s foundation, corporate, and individual giving fundraising strategies, as well as for developing and implementing our marketing and social media outreach plan. She/he will also be responsible for planning, organizing, and executing on the organization’s various fundraising events and managing associated PR. The Development and Communications Manager will report to and collaborate with the Director of Development to manage all of the organization’s resource development and communications activities.

Duties & Responsibilities:        

Fundraising and Donor Stewardship

  • Research and identify foundations and corporate funders whose missions align with RTMC’s and assist with drafting letters of intent and grant proposals, as applicable
  • Manage all donor processing and recognition activities
  • Manage and continually update RTMC’s fundraising and events calendar in conjunction with Development Director
  • Co-develop fundraising and stewardship plan; execute position-specific activities assigned in the plan
  • Develop drafts of various grant applications for Director’s edits and submission

Communications and External Relations

  • Serve as an advocate for RTMC with strong written and verbal communications that engage key stakeholders
  • Translate mission and vision for internal and external stakeholders – succinctly and compellingly communicating a storyline about the need, the cost of doing business, and how a donor’s investment can affect the communities we serve
  • Assist with all written and visual communication to external stakeholders
  • Create marketing materials for stakeholders including photo boards, videos, and presentations
  • Co-develop and implement a consistent and effective social media outreach plan

Reporting and Event Promotion

  • Assist with all internal and external reporting (e.g., grant reporting, audit reporting) in accordance with grant and/or sponsorship requirements
  • Develop, plan, and execute on RTMC’s fundraising events, including the annual golf tournament, annual Evening to [Re]Build event, and other recurring and/or one-time fundraising events
  • Coordinates the outreach effort for each fundraising event (including but not limited to drafting press releases for each project, coordinating with project partners to determine outreach, drafting and posting short summaries with photos to the website, ensuring social media activity on each project)
  • Generate project reports and documentation in accordance with grant or sponsorship requirements
  • Issue partner and individual volunteer ‘thank you’ correspondence upon completion of a project
  • Create post-project ‘thank you’ picture books for project partners or alternative recognition

Reporting Structure: 

You will report to the Director of Development and will work closely with the Program Managers.


  • A positive “can-do” attitude with a pleasant demeanor
  • Excels at multi-tasking with various projects and deadlines
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • 0-2 years of development/fundraising experience
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and CRM software
  • Experience as a Salesforce user and/or administrator
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, etc.) and similar photo/video editing software
  • Ability to develop creative and professional presentations for potential volunteers and funders
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with consistent follow-through
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required
  • Prior event planning and/or project management experience preferred
  • Montgomery County or housing-related fundraising experience, a plus

Compensation & Benefits Information: 

This is a full time, exempt, salaried position with comprehensive benefits including vacation and sick leave time. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.

Rebuilding Together Montgomery County (RTMC) works in partnership with community volunteers to provide home repairs, accessibility modifications, and links to community resources to keep low-income homeowners living safely and independently in their homes. RTMC was founded in 1990 and is one of more than 140 affiliates of the national organization, Rebuilding Together, which was founded in 1973 and formerly known as Christmas in April.
